Pengaruh Komposisi Media Peatmoss Terhadap Kualitas Bibit Eucalyptus Pellita
ABSTRACT
Industrial Plantation Forests (IPF) require the availability of high-quality
superior seedlings to support successful planting, one of which is Eucalyptus
pellita cultivated using the mini cutting method. The success of this vegetative
propagation is greatly influenced by the growing medium used. The cocopeat and
charcoal-based media currently used as standard operating procedures (SOP) still
have limitations, necessitating alternatives such as peatmoss, which offers better
water retention and nutrient content. This study aims to investigate the effect of
peatmoss media composition on the quality of Eucalyptus pellita seedlings.
The study was conducted at a nursery of one of the HTI in Riau using a
Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with eight treatments and five
replications per treatment, and a sample size of 800 plants. The parameters
observed included seedling height, stem diameter, number of leaves, root
compactness, stem hardness, survival rate, and Seedlings Ready for Planting
(SRP).
The results showed that the composition of the growing medium had a
significant effect on seedling growth and quality. The best treatment was obtained
with composition P3 (67% cocopeat + 33% peatmoss), which produced the
highest RTS value. Thus, the use of peatmoss in the growing medium was proven
to improve the quality of Eucalyptus pellita seedlings and can be recommended as
an alternative growing medium in HTI.
