a study on students’ ability in identifying expressions of invitation on smp n 31 pekanbaru

This research is about students' ability to identify Expression of Invitation on SMP N 31 Pekanbaru. This research uses quantitative method that uses a written testt as instrument. The main purpose of this research is to determine students' ability to identify an Expression of Invitation. This study used purposive sampling technique to determine the sample. The sample was 28 students. In the written test instrument there are 45 questions. The time provided is 45 minutes. The results showed that students had varied abilities in understanding Expression of Invitation. Furthermore, it was found that 14 students scored excellent level or about (50%), 2 students scored good level or about (7.1%), 0 students scored fair and poor (0%), and 12 students scored very poor level or about (42.9%). And the average score of all students is 63.3%. This research suggests to students to improve their ability by practicing questions Expression of Invitation or involve in invitation dialogue. And for teachers it is expected that teachers should give more practice and using different method in teaching especially about expression of Invitation in creating ways that can help students to improve their ability. Teachers should also be able to make students enjoy their English class by creating interesting ways and varied activities
