This study aims to examine the effect of the inquiry method on students’ cognitive learning outcomes in history subjects for eleventh-grade students at SMKN 2 Pekanbaru. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using the Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The sample consisted of two classes: the experimental class (XI Electrical 1) with 40 students taught using the inquiry method, and the control class (XI Electrical 2) with 40 students taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through multiple-choice tests and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, t-test, and N-gain tests. The results revealed that the experimental class achieved a higher post-test average score (81.28) compared to the control class (73.77). The t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Furthermore, the N-gain test indicated an effectiveness increase of 56%, categorized as moderately effective. Therefore, it can be concluded that the inquiry method has a positive and effective impact on improving students’ cognitive learning outcomes in history subjects.
