Pengaruh Teknik Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Untuk Meningkatkan Komunikasi Interpersonal Siswa Melalui Bimbingan Kelompok Di SMPN 23 Pekanbaru

Interpersonal communication is the process of sending messages between individuals
called message senders (communicators) with other individuals called message recipients
(communicants) to exchange information and thoughts that occur directly or indirectly.
Interpersonal communication can be delivered verbally or nonverbally. If students'
interpersonal communication is low, it will affect the future of students in their social life,
including for class VII students at SMPN 23 Pekanbaru. To avoid this, it is necessary to
personally train students with problems. In addition, students need to be provided with
counseling and guidance services in schools so that students feel cared for and guided to
improve the problematic behavior they experience.
This study entitled The Effect of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Techniques To
Improve Students' Interpersonal Communication through Group Guidance at SMPN 23
Pekanbaru which aims to improve students' interpersonal communication which is low at
SMPN 23 Pekanbaru.
This research is quantitative with the type of experimental research. The research
subjects were seventh grade students of SMPN 23 Pekanbaru who had low interpersonal
communication. Data collection tools were carried out through the distribution of
interpersonal communication questionnaires which were then analyzed pretest and posttest
using the Wilcoxon test and the spearman rank test with the help of SPSS 25.
The results of the hypothesis prove that there is an increase in students' interpersonal
communication after being given the FGD technique through group guidance with the
Wilcoxon test value showing the Asymp Sig (2-tailed) of (0.012) < (0.05) which means the
hypothesis is accepted. Thus, it is stated that the focus group discussion technique has a
significant positive effect on improving interpersonal communication for class VII students at
SMPN 23 Pekanbaru.
