Prarancangan Pabrik Ester Metil Sulfonat Dari Crude Palm Oil Menggunakan Proses Chemiton Dengan Disain Alat Utama Reaktor Netralisasi
Palm oil is one of the leading commodities that make an important contribution to Indonesia's economic development, especially in the development of agro-industry. Methyl sulfonate ester (EMS) is an anionic surfactant that functions as an active ingredient to reduce the surface tension of a solution. The methyl sulfonate ester production process generally consists of a sulfonation step, a bleaching step, and a neutralization step. The main raw materials used in the manufacture of methyl sulfonate esters are crude palm oil (CPO), methanol, and SO3. This factory is planned to operate for 330 days per year and work continuously 24 hours/day with a capacity of 90,000 tons/year which will be established in Maloy Industrial Estate, East Kalimantan. The design of the main tool in this plant is a neutralization reactor which serves to neutralize the acid content in the methyl sulfonate ester with the addition of NaOH. This Neutralization Reactor is operated at a pressure of 1 atm and a temperature of 60oC. Economic analysis in the design of this plant shows that the methyl sulfonate ester plant is feasible to build. With a Break Event Point (BEP) of 40%, a Rate of Investment (ROI) of 21.84%, an Interest Rate of Return (IRR) of 22.90%, and a Pay Back Period (PBP) of 2.36 years.
