Analisis Pengaruh Kuat Arus Dan Jenis Elektroda Terhadap Cacat Pengelasan Pada Mild Steel Astm A 36
ABSTRACT
In the SMAW welding process there are various types of electrodes with various diameter sizes, besides that in the process various current strengths can be used. All this is done to adjust the plate thickness and type of steel, as well as to reduce the main problem in the welding process, namely the occurrence of welding defects. The purpose of this study was to analyze and identify welding defects that occur in each variation so that the optimum current that can be used in SMAW welding can be determined. The welding process in this study uses ASTM A 36 low carbon steel with dimensions of 8 mm thick, 80 mm wide, and 100 mm long. The welding process is carried out in an underhand position (1G) using a V joint with a SMAW welding machine with a two-axis adaptive sliding system with speed control. The types of electrodes used are ESAB electrodes E6013 and E7018 with a diameter of 3.2 mm. The current variations used are 90 A, 105 A and 120 A. The test methods used are Penetrant Test, Visual Test (Non-Destructive Test) and Tensile Test (Destructive Test). The results of this study are 1) the defects that often occur when welding on the undercut E6013 electrode and the E7018 electrode are porosity, 2) at a current of 120 A there are minimal welding defects, and 3) the tensile strength of E7018 is greater than E6013.
