The Role of the International Rhino Foundation (IRF) in Sumatran Rhino
Conservation Efforts in Indonesia. The aims of this study are: First, to find out the
role of the International Rhino Foundation in the conservation of the Sumatran
Rhino in Indonesia. Second, to find out the programs carried out by the
International Rhino Foundation in the implementation of Sumatran Rhino
conservation in Indonesia. Third, to find out more about the development of the
Sumatran Rhino population. The Sumatran Rhino has experienced a significant
population decline from year to year which has made the Sumatran Rhino status
as critically endangered. It was estimated that there were only 80 Sumatran
Rhinos remain and only live in Indonesia, either in captivity or in the wild. This
research will answer the question of the role of the International Rhino
Foundation in Sumatran Rhino Conservation Efforts in Indonesia.
This research is based on the perspective of pluralism and uses the level of
group analysis to understand the role of a group with other groups in a particular
field. This study used the Non-Governmental Organizations theory. The
researcher used a literature study research method by collecting data from books,
academic journals, official documents, laws, and also sources from the internet
related to research on the Role of the International Rhino Foundation (IRF) in
Sumatran Rhino Conservation Efforts in Indonesia.
The results of research on the role of the International Rhino Foundation
(IRF) in Sumatran Rhino conservation efforts in Indonesia were described based
on NGO theory, where IRF as an implementer, IRF implements the Sumatran
Rhino Sanctuary (SRS), the establishment of the Rhino Protection Unit (RPU), the
implementation of the Sumatran Rhino Survival Alliance (SRSA), and
implementation of TNWK habitat management. As a catalyst, IRF has a role in
inviting local communities to participate in TNWK habitat management and
providing assistance to researchers conducting research on the Sumatran rhino.
As a partner, IRF plays a role in cooperation in the formation of SRS, RPU,
SRSA, and cooperation in habitat management programs.
