ABSTRACT
This study discusses the role of the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the
Archipelago (AMAN) in supporting the implementation of the United Nations
Declarationon on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) in Indonesia.
Indonesia is one of the countries that have ratified this declaration. Indigenous
peoples have been of international concern for a long time because they are one
of the most affected groups in the current era of increasingly widespread
development.
This research is described using a pluralism perspective with the theory of
Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and the method used is a descriptive
qualitative method with data collection techniques with interviews and data
analysis obtained from journals, books, internet sites and newspapers.
The results of this study indicate that AMAN performs its role with what
David Lewis calls Implementers, catalysts and partners in supporting the
implementation of indigenous peoples' rights in Indonesia, referring to the
contents of the declaration. AMAN as Implementer performs its role by forming a
wing-organization called PPMAN. As a Catalyst, AMAN plays a role by
advocating for various parties for the protection and recognition of the rights of
indigenous peoples. while in Parters AMAN cooperates with institutions in
matters relating to the rights of indigenous peoples.
Key Word: Indigenous Peoples, UNDRIP, AMAN, Non-Govermental
