Pemanfaatan Limbah Plastik Jenis Polyethylene Terephtalate (Pet) Sebagai Bahan Bakar Alternatif Dengan Metode Pirolisis
ABSTRACT
The increasing amount of plastic waste is causing problems for the environment, due to the non-degradable nature of plastic in the soil. One of the plastics that are widely used in everyday life is polyethylene terphthalate (PET). It takes decades in the soil to decompose the wastes from these plastic materials. Another alternative for handling plastic waste is the recycling process which is more profitable, one of which is converting plastic waste into fuel oil as an alternative energy source because basically plastic comes from petroleum so it is returned to its original shape. Plastic also has a calorific value that is quite high, equivalent to gasoline and diesel. technology to convert plastic waste into fuel oil, namely by the pyrolysis process. This test varied the time and temperature, with the most oil yields at a temperature of 300°C with a time of 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes as much as 52.7 g, 46 g, 23.5 g. With a calorific value of 8404.55 cal/g, 8552.63 cal/g, 8848.80 cal/g, and a density of 0.84 g/ml. The conclusion of this study, pyrolysis on testing Polyethylene terephthalate plastic can produce fuel that is close to the quality of diesel fuel. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out further research in processing so that it can be used as a fuel that can be directly used.
