Sintesis Komposit Mno2/Bentonit Dengan Metode Pengendapan Untuk Degradasi Metilen Biru

SUMMARY
Wastewater pollution has become a serious environmental problem to human and other living organisms. The source of waste could be originated from dye residues. Effluents from textile industry contain recalcitrant compounds that are difficult to degrade. One of the most widely used dyes is methylene blue. Different methods have been applied to cope with these compounds. Photocatalysis is considered as the most effective and efficient way to degrade dyes. In this study, the composite MnO2/Bentonite has been prepared as the catalyst by the reaction between KMnO4, glucose and bentonite. The as-synthesized composite was characterized by XRD for the determination of crystal size and crystal phase. FTIR is used for functional group and UV-DRS for the band energy. The XRD, FTIR and UV-DRS results indicated that the cryptomelane-type manganese oxide have been successfully obtained with the band gap energy of composite is 1.85 eV. The photocatalysis activity of MnO2/Bentonit was tested for degradation of methylene blue and the maximum degradation of 50 ppm methylene blue was 99.73% under conditions of methylene blue with pH=11 and 37.5 mg of MnO2/Bentonite for 120 minute.
