Uji Potensi Daun Tanaman Sembung Rambat (Mikania Micrantha Kunth) Sebagai Inhibitor Α-Amilase
SUMMARY
The α-amylase is an enzyme found in the human digestive process that hydrolyzes starch into maltose and maltose is then hydrolyzed by maltase into glucose. High levels of glucose in the blood can be reduced by inhibiting the activity of α-amylase. The leaves of the sembung rambat plant (Mikania micrantha Kunth) belonging to the Asteraceae family are predicted to contain phenolic and flavonoid active compounds that can act as α-amylase inhibitors. Phenolics and flavonoids from the leaves of this plant were extracted with methanol, ethyl acetate, and hydro-methanol as solvents. Furthermore, the levels of these two active compounds and their inhibitory power to α-amylase activity were determined. The highest phenolic levels expressed in Galiic Acid Equivalent were in ethyl acetate extract (756 ± 1,087 mg GAE/g DE), methanol extract (364,5 ± 1,264 mg GAE/g DE), and hydro-methanol extract (253,167 ± 0,373 mg). GAE/gDE). The highest levels of flavonoids expressed in Quercetin Equivalent were in ethyl acetate extract (1171,911 ± 0,795 QE/g DE), methanol extract (1000,178 ± 2,696 QE/g DE), and hydro-methanol extract (706,133 ± 4,427 QE/gDE). The highest percentage of inhibition of α-amylase enzyme activity was from ethyl acetate extract (53.126 ± 0.179%), methanol extract (46.169 ± 0.574%), and hydro-methanol extract (35.431 ± 0.183%). Ethyl acetate extract from the leaves of the sembung rambat (Mikania micrantha Kunth) plant has the potential to inhibit the activity of the α-amylase.
