ABSTRACT
Cockroaches are one of the animals whose existence is close to humans. These animals are often regarded as a nuisance that can spread disease because they live in a dirty environment. So far there have not been many scientific reports on the types of cockroaches in Indonesia, including in Pekanbaru City, there is no data. The purpose of this study was to look at the differences in environmental sanitation conditions in the two types of houses as cockroach habitat, to look at the pattern of presence and composition of cockroach species in both types of houses (permanent and semi-permanent), and to analyze descriptively the relationship between environmental conditions and the presence of cockroaches. The research was conducted in 30 houses with 15 permanent houses and 15 semi-permanent houses in Pekanbaru City. Samples were taken using the direct capture method by hand and the bait method using bottle traps and commercial traps. Data analysis was carried out descriptively by comparing the number of types and individuals of cockroaches found in permanent and semi-permanent houses. The types of cockroaches found in permanent homes were Periplaneta americana and Neostylopyga rhombifolia with a total of 12 individuals (70.6%), while in semi-permanent homes one type of cockroach was found, namely Periplaneta americana with a total of five individuals (29.4%). Periplaneta americana is the most common type of cockroach.
