Relationship between diet and milk production in lactating mothers

Abstract
Intrudation : For a mother breastfeeding is one of the obligations that must be carried out because the smooth production of breast milk is very important for the baby and the more often the mother breastfeeds will affect milk production. This study aims to determine the relationship between diet and milk production in breastfeeding mothers at Payung Sekaki Public Health Center, Pekanbaru City. Methods: This study used a correlation descriptive design and a cross sectional approach. The number of samples was 89 respondents who were breastfeeding mothers who were taken based on inclusion criteria using a purposive sampling technique. The analysis used was bivariate analysis using the chi square test. Results: There were 8 (100%) breastfeeding mothers who had an adequate diet with insufficient milk production and 0 (0%) breastfeeding mothers who produced sufficient breast milk. Respondents whose diet was inadequate with sufficient milk production were 74 people (91.4%) and as many as 7 people (8.6%) respondents had sufficient milk production. The results of statistical tests showed that there was no relationship between diet and milk production in nursing mothers with a p value ≥ (0.05) with a p value = 0.859. Conclusion: there is no relationship between diet and milk production in nursing mothers.
