This research discusses the effectiveness of flashcard media in mastering
Japanese vocabulary of class X students of SMAN 9 Pekanbaru. This study aims to
compare the learning outcomes of Japanese vocabulary of class X students of
SMAN 9 Pekanbaru using digital flashcards and paper flashcards. The method used
is quantitative approach with quasi-experimental research method. This study used
a nonequivalent control group design experiment with a population of 68 people
who were divided into two classes, namely the class given the digital flashcard
treatment and the class given the paper flashcard treatment. Each class had a total
of 34 people. Before and after the treatment, both classes were tested to determine
the students' Japanese vocabulary acquisition. The data from the pre-test and posttest
were analyzed using SPSS version 29 for Windows. The results of the
homogeneity test showed that the two classes were similar because the significance
value was more than five. In the normality test, the pre-test of both classes was
normal, but the post-test was not normal. Therefore, the Mann-Whitney test was
used to test the hypothesis. The Mann-Whitney test results showed that there was
no significant difference in vocabulary learning outcomes of students in Class X
SMAN 9 Pekanbaru between digital flashcards and paper flashcards users. The
effectiveness of Quizlet application and paper flashcards in mastering Japanese
vocabulary by students of Class X SMAN 9 Pekanbaru was tested using N-Gain test.
The test results showed that the Quizlet application achieved a score of 82.83, while
the paper flashcards achieved a score of 76.33. Both media are effective in
mastering Japanese vocabulary of class X students of SMAN 9 Pekanbaru, but the
Quizlet application is more effective than paper flashcards seen from the magnitude
of the N-Gain score.
