ABSTRACT
South Korea has ratified the 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugees and the 1967 Protocol regarding the Status of Refugees since 1991. In implementing the agreement, South Korea created a policy called the Refugee Act. However, South Korea only received a very small number of refugees, especially when the influx of Yemeni refugees to Jeju Island. South Korea on the other hand is faced with the demands of the Korean people who refuse the entry of refugees.
In this study using qualitative methods with data collection techniques through books, journals, news, mass media articles and trusted internet sites. It also uses the interview method.
This study revealed that the government continues to carry out the agreement through the Refugee Act. However, due to the pressure from Korean society, there where many disparities in the implementaion of Refugee Act. South Korea still has a long way to go in fully complying with the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol on the Status of Refugees.
