Sintesis Dan Uji Aktivitas Komposit Mno2/Abu Layang Dalam Mendegradasi Zat Warna Menggunakan Metode Fenton
SUMMARY
Dye waste has a negative impact on health and the environment, so it must be treated before being discharged into the environment. The Fenton method is an effective method for the degradation of dyes into environmentally friendly compounds. In this study, the synthesis of the MnO2/fly ash composite was carried out using the precipitation method. MnO2 was synthesized by mixing together KMnO4 and glucose in a ratio (3:1) which was then composited with 15% fly ash. The MnO2/fly ash composite was then applied for the degradation of methylene blue dye. Optimization of methylene blue degradation was carried out by varying the volume of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), varying the mass of the composite, and varying the concentration of methylene blue. The results of the characterization by XRD showed that the type of manganese oxide present in the composite was cryptomelane and had an average crystal size of 1,274 nm. The vibration of O-Mn-O caused by the presence of MnO2 in the composite is present at wave number 663,54 cm-1. Degradation of methylene blue using MnO2/fly ash showed that there was an optimum volume (1 mL) of H2O2 for a degradation time of 120 minutes, an optimum mass of (50 mg) MnO2/fly ash and an optimum concentration (50 ppm) of methylene blue was obtained. Based on the optimum conditions obtained in this study, the maximum degradation of methylene blue was 94,56%.
