Pengaruh Aktivasi Fisika Pada Karakter Arang Aktif Cangkang Buah Karet (Hevea Brasiliensis) Teraktivasi Zncl2
SUMMARY
Rubber fruit shell (Hevea brasiliensis) is a part of rubber fruit which is not widely used, so it only becomes waste in rubber producing areas. Rubber fruit shell (CBK) has a chemical composition of cellulose, lignin, and hemicellulose as a carbon source that has the potential to be used as an adsorbent. In this study, chemical activation of CBK was carried out using ZnCl2 and physical activation with variations in temperature (250; 300; 400)℃ and time (15; 30; 45) minutes which aims to improve the character of the CBK adsorbent. CBK that has been activated is called activated charcoal. The yield and characterization of CBK activated charcoal were determined based on water content, ash content, iodine adsorption capacity and methylene blue adsorption capacity according to quality standards SNI No.06-3730-1995. The yield of the highest physical activation was found in activated charcoal which was activated at 250℃ for 15 minutes (AA250-15), namely 47.84%. Based on the results, the character of activated charcoal complies with SNI No.06-3730-1995 quality standards such as moisture content and ash content. Iodine adsorption capacity which also complies with quality standards SNI No.06-3730-1995 except AA250-15 (704.29 mg g-1) and AA400-15 (612.16 mg g-1). The adsorption capacity of methylene blue has not yet reached the minimum SNI quality standard of 120 mg g-1. The functional groups identified in activated charcoal from AA400-30 rubber fruit shells were N-H stretching, O-H stretching, C=O carbonyl and C-O carboxylic acids. In this study AA400-30 was the best sample resulting from the characterization based on iodine adsorption capacity that meets standards SNI No.06-3730-1995.
