Abstract
Introduction: Development is a systematic pattern of changes in structure, ideas, emotions, or behavior resulting from a process of maturation, experience, and learning. One of the factors that influence child development is the family environment. Mother is a woman who acts as the main educator and caregiver in the family. Along with the development of the times, science and technology, as well as the need for self-actualization, there has been a shift in the role of a mother. Most mothers spend around 7.44 hours outside the home which results in reduced time to accompany their children. This study aims to determine the development of toddler aged children between working and non-working mothers. Methods: This study used a comparative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample for this research was toddlers aged 1-3 years, totaling 88 respondents were taken using a purposive sampling technique. Results: Researchers found that the majority of mothers were aged 26-35 years (69.3%) and majority had higher education (61.4%). The age distribution of the majority of children was 25-36 months (48.9%), majority are female (59.1%), majority of children had ≥2 siblings (71.6%), and majority were raised by mothers (51.1%). The results of the analysis using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test statistic showed that there was no difference in the development of toddler-age children between working and non-working mothers in the Sail Pekanbaru District, obtained a p value of 0.461 > 0.05. Conclusion: Working and non-working mothers have the same opportunity to care for, nurture, and pay attention to the development of their children so that they are in accordance with their developmental stages.
