POST-OPERATIVE PRESENTATION OF HYPOSPADIAS PATIENTS IN PEDIATRIC SURGERY DIVISION OF RSUD ARIFIN ACHMAD PROVINSI RIAU PERIOD 2018—2020

Background: Hypospadias is the second most common congenital anomaly in male which can affect urination and sexual activity. The only way to repair this condition is surgery, which has a risk of postoperative complications.
Objective: To get an overview of the hypospadias’ characteristics and postoperative presentation in the pediatric surgery department of Arifin Achmad Hospital.
Methods: A single-center study was conducted in the pediatric surgery department at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province, using medical record as the instrument. Data of hypospadias profile, types of surgery, age at surgery, and surgery results were collected at once and analyzed univariately using the SPSS application.
Results: There were 37 hypospadias patients during the period 2018-2020 with the proportions of penile, penoscrotal, and scrotal types, respectively 27%, 43.2%, and 29.7%. All of these cases underwent surgery with the majority, namely 64.9%, underwent one-stage repair. The age at surgery that is often found in this institution is the range of 3-5 years and 6-11 years with a percentage of 32.4% each. As many as 81.1% had good surgical results without complications, whilst 18.9% had postoperative complications where 16.7% were urethrocutaneous fistula and 2.7% were urethral strictures. Referring to the type of hypospadias, there was an increasing percentage of complications from penile, penoscrotal, and scrotal types with respective percentages of 10%, 18.87%, and 27.27%. Based on the type of surgery, 87.50% who underwent one-stage repair and 69.23% who underwent multi-stage repair did not experience complications. Looking to the age of surgery, the best results were obtained at the age of under 3 years with 100% of the cases did not reach complications while the window where more complications were found was 3-5 years, with a complication percentage of 33.3%.
