Potensi Biji Pepaya (Carica Pepaya) Sebagai Biokoagulan Untuk Penyisihan Warna, Bau, Zat Organik Dan Ion Fe Pada Air Gambut
SUMMARY
Pepaya seeds are waste from pepaya fruit which is thrown away by the community because it is considered useless. This study aims to analyze the biocoagulant ability of pepaya seeds (Carica papaya) to remove odor, color, organic matter and Fe ions contained in peat water. The preparation of pepaya seed biocoagulant was carried out by extraction using 0.5 M NaCl and DM aqua respectively and variations in extraction time (1, 2, 5, 8 and 10) minutes. The resulting biocoagulant was characterized by its functional groups using FTIR, protein content using the Lowry method and water content by gravimetry. Determination of the effectiveness of biocoagulant performance was carried out by the coagulation method using a jar test under various conditions, namely variations in coagulation methods (referring to three studies) and variations in doses (1, 2 and 3) g. Based on the results of IR spectrum analysis, the biocoagulant samples contained OH groups (carboxylic acids), N-H (amines), C-H, C=O (carbonyl) and C-O (carboxylic) groups. The appearance of amine and carboxylic acid groups indicated the presence of protein in the pepaya seed biocoagulant, namely 0,83% in BPNaCl-1 and 0,46% in BPNaCl-1. Optimum conditions for coagulation - flocculation using pepaya seed biocoagulant BPNaCl-1 with method 1 coagulation conditions (160 rpm, 5 minutes) - flocculation (100 rpm, 20 minutes; 40 rpm, 5 minutes) at a dose of 2 g managed to remove the color by 89,56%, organic matter of 72,11% and 92,72% for Fe metal parameters. Characteristics of peat water after coagulation-flocculation of the three parameters measured, only the Fe content of peat water met the PERMENKES No. 32 of 2017 concerning Environmental Health Quality Standards and Water Health Requirements for Sanitary Hygiene Purposes and PP rules No. 22 of 2021 Class I regarding Raw Water for Drinking Water, while the parameters for color and organic matter unfulfilled.
