Abstract
Introduction: Street sweepers are a vulnerable group that can experience various health problems. This can be caused by a lack of knowledge and attitude of street sweepers about personal protective equipment. So the effort that can be done is to provide health education about the use of personal protective equipment to increase the knowledge and attitude of street sweepers. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of health education about the use of personal protective equipment on highway sweepers in Pekanbaru City. Methods: This researched was a quantitative study with a pre-experiment research design and used one group pre-test post-test research design. The sample of this researched were 34 respondents with purposive sampling technique. The analysis used bivariate analysis with Wilcoxon test. Results: The results showed that the average knowledge before being given the intervention (pre-test) was 8,44 while the average knowledge after being given the intervention (post-test) was 10,82. The average attitude before being given the intervention (pre-test) was 33 while the average attitude after being given health education was 36,59. The results of the statistical test stated that there were differences in the average knowledge and attitude of street sweepers before and after being given health education about the use of personal protective equipment with a p value (0,000) < alpha (0,05). Conclusion: Health education is effective in increasing the knowledge and attitudes of street sweepers about the use of personal protective equipment.
