ABSTRACT
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, Distance Learning (PJJ) has been implemented in almost all schools, this has had a negative impact, one of which is a decrease in learning achievement. In general, a decrease in learning achievement due to students' loss of interest in learning or reduced academic knowledge and skills which can cause a lack of achievement indicators in the educational setting is called learning loss.
Learning loss is a limitation or loss of knowledge and abilities both generally and specifically which will later refer to academic development. Learning Japanese is susceptible to learning loss. In accordance with the curriculum that has been established in the 2021 Japanese Language Education Study Program, at the beginning of the semester students study hiragana letters first before moving on to other letters. Hiragana letters are taught to students starting at the initial level of learning Japanese. One of the letters that is often mistaken and confused is the hiragana letter. Hiragana letters have a very important role that cannot be ignored in learning Japanese.
Hiragana writing skills relate to aspects of special skills that must be mastered by students of the Japanese Language Education Study Program. Special skills in the Japanese Language Education Study Program are found in KK
(special skills) 1, namely being able to communicate verbally and in writing in Japanese both in formal and informal situations paying attention to language politeness.
This research aims to describe the phenomenon of learning loss and the factors that cause learning loss to occur in students of the 2021 class of the Japanese language education study program, FKIP UNRI. In this research, it was found that there was a learning loss phenomenon in students of the 2021 class of the Japanese language education study program, FKIP UNRI. It is known that the occurrence of learning loss is due to several indicators, namely short learning time, low ability and skills, the results of the information obtained are not optimal, low enthusiasm for learning. Then it was discovered that another factor causing learning loss in students of the class of 2021 is due to an unstable internet connection and no previous experience and knowledge.
There were differences in the level of learning loss experienced by the 6 students with the criteria being 2 students with fairly good abilities, 2 students with moderate criteria, and 2 more students with poor criteria. It can be seen that students with fairly good abilities experience lower learning loss. Each student with fairly good abilities only experienced 2 of the 4 existing indicators. Students with medium and low abilities experience 4 of these 4 indicators which results in these students experiencing learning loss with a high impact.
