Potensi Biosorben Kulit Singkong (Manihot Esculenta Crantz) Teraktivasi Naoh dalam Meningkatkan Ph dan Kualitas Fisik Air Gambut
Cassava peel is an industrial waste that has not been utilized optimally. Cassava peel has a cellulose content of 43.6%, so it has the potential to be used as a powder as a biosorbent to absorb organic compounds in peat water. This research aims to analyze the effect of the activation process of cassava peel biosorbent powder with NaOH on its character and determine the optimum contact time and optimum dose of biosorbent powder in increasing the pH and physical quality (color, odor, TSS and TDS) of peat water. The cassava peel biosorbent powder in this study was made through the process of drying the washed cassava peel, then grinding it to a size that passed at 100 mesh and was retained at 200 mesh. Biosorbent powder was activated using 0.4 N NaOH solution with a ratio of 1:10 (w/v). The biosorbent powder before and after activation was characterized, including water content, iodine adsorption capacity, and methylene blue adsorption capacity, to see the quality of the cassava peel biosorbent powder. The surface morphology and elemental composition of cassava peel biosorbent powder were analyzed using SEM-EDS, while the functional groups were analyzed using FTIR. Determination of the optimum contact time was carried out with variations in contact time of 30, 60 and 90 minutes. After obtaining the optimum contact time, then proceed with determining the optimum dose of biosorbent powder with a dose variation of 0.05; 0.10; and 0.15 g. The results of the characterization of the biosorbent powder after activation showed that the water content, iodine adsorption capacity, and methylene blue adsorption capacity were 0.36%; 320.5607 mg/g, and 24.6463 mg/g with a surface area of
91.3815 m2/g. Based on research, the optimum conditions for biosorbent powder after activation are a contact time of 60 minutes and a dose of 0.10 g of biosorbent powder. These optimum conditions have not been able to improve the color and odor of peat water, but have succeeded in improving pH, TSS and TDS when compared with Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 concerning Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management.
