Studi Kombinasi Metoda Kiln Drum-Microwave Pada Sintesis Arang Aktif Kulit Durian (Durio Zibethinus Murr) dan Aplikasinya Untuk Memperbaiki Beberapa Parameter Air Gambut Secara Batch
Durian peel has a high cellulose content so it has the potential to be used as an ingredient for making activated charcoal. This research aims to synthesize activated charcoal from durian skin as raw material and utilize activated charcoal to overcome several peat water parameters. Durian peel activated charcoal was synthesized using the drum kiln carbonization (AKD) method and followed by activation in a 300 W microwave for 8 minutes (AAKD8), 10 minutes (AAKD10) and 12 minutes (AAKD12) and durian peel activated charcoal was characterized through a water content test. , ash content, alkalinity of the charcoal surface, pH point of zero charge (pHzpc), determination of surface area using methylene blue absorption, functional group analysis using FTIR (Fourier Transformation Infra-Red), crystallinity analysis, and lattice parameters using XRD (X- Ray Diffraction). Then, all samples and activated charcoal were applied to improve the parameters of odor, pH, turbidity, TDS and TSS in peat water. The moisture content value of the charcoal before activation is quite high, but the longer the activation time with microwave, the water content value decreases, while the ash content value of durian skin charcoal before activation is already high and the longer the activation time with microwave, the more the resulting ash content value increases. The alkalinity value for charcoal before and after activation produces the same value. In the analysis of methylene blue adsorption capacity, the longer the activation time, the lower the Qe value of durian peel activated charcoal. Based on the Langmuir isotherm equation, the largest Qm and surface area values are found in the AKD sample. The Qm value and surface area of microwave activated charcoal decrease with increasing activation time. AKD, AAKD8, and AAKD10 show carbon peaks at hkl (002) and (100). The XRD results show a high level of crystallinity and low amorphousness as the activation time in the microwave increases. The functional groups detected via FTIR are O-H (alcohols, phenols and carboxylic acids), C-H (aliphatic), C=C (aromatic), and CO2. Activation using a microwave has no effect on the functional groups in durian peel activated charcoal. The best peat water adsorption results were found at a contact time of 120 minutes, an adsorbent mass of 0.25 g on the AAKD10 sample which was able to reduce the percentage of turbidity in the peat water by 76.69% and was able to remove the odor in the peat water. TDS and TSS parameters in peat water have not been able to be improved by durian peel activated charcoal. Based on the Qm value and surface area, the best adsorbent for methylene blue absorption is the AKD adsorbent, while for peat water adsorption the best adsorbent is the AAKD10 adsorbent.
