Pembuatan Propeller Kapal Cepat Berbahan Aluminium Daur Ulang Menggunakan Investment Casting Dengan Pola Polylactic Acid (PLA)
Manufacturing a propeller with investment casting consumes times due to the wax pattern molding process. Replacing the pattern material to polylactic acid (PLA) would improve process efficiency. This material can be printed with a 3D printer with results that are close to the size of the final product. This allows to cut the wax pattern molding process. This research aimed to make a propeller using PLA patterns by varying the gating systems design. PLA was printed using a 3D printer with several types, namely direct gating with riser, split gating with riser, and split gating without riser. The pattern was coated with slurry ceramic to a thickness of ±18 mm. The dewaxing temperature was 390 °C. This temperature was obtained from the phase transition temperature of PLA. The coated samples were sintered at 530 °C hold for 30 minutes. The melt of aluminum was poured at 700 °C to the 200 °C of ceramic shell. The casted samples were observed visually and measured followed by porosity test. The result shows that the split gating system with risers is the most optimal gating system for propeller casting. This type of gating has the least defects with minimum size deviation and an average porosity of 0.795%.
