Pemanfaatan Silika Dari Tandan Abu Sawit (Palm Slag) Dari Proses Leaching Sebagai Bahan Komposit Kampas Rem
Palm oil is one of Indonesia's foreign exchange earning export commodities. This condition has an impact on increasing palm oil production. Increasing palm oil processing causes the waste produced to increase. One of the wastes from the palm oil processing process is palm ash. The silica content in palm ash has the potential to be an alternative source of silica material to replace commercial silica, making it more environmentally friendly and reducing production costs. This research aims to determine the composition of silica after the leaching process and the effect of variations in the volume fraction of silica from palm ash bunches on the density, porosity and hardness of Non-asbestos Organic (NAO) brake lining samples. Palm ash was isolated by a leaching process using 1 M HCl solution at a temperature of 70°C, rotation speed of 600 rpm, and time of 90 minutes. The silica resulting from the characterization is then tested for X-Rays Fluorescence (XRF), density, porosity and hardness. The research results showed that the bottom of the palm ash bunches was successfully purified with a silica content from 27,3% to 57,2%. The addition of 0% to 8% silica volume fraction from palm ash bunches reduces the sample density from 2,59 g/cm3 to 2,37 g/cm3, reducing hardness from 76,40 HRS to 67,30 HRS, and increasing porosity from 25,66% to 30,59%.
