Penerapan Model Pembelajaran Interactive Demonstration Untuk Meningkatkan Pemahaman Konsep Peserta Didik Kelas VII SMP Pada Materi Suhu Kalor Dan Pemuaian
The role of science education is very significant for current developments to prepare for a future that is increasingly influenced by technological advances. In the knowledge construction process, there is a possibility that students experience errors in understanding concepts. This is because students are still not used to constructing science concepts and learning with the same and boring presentation. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a model that can present science learning in an interesting but still meaningful way. One of the appropriate learning models to solve the problem of students' low understanding of concepts is the Interactive Demonstration learning model.
This research aims to describe the effect of implementing Interactive Demonstration learning in improving students' ability to understand concepts in temperature, heat and expansion. Apart from that, this research was carried out to determine the effectiveness of physics learning through the application of Interactive Demonstration learning in improving students' ability to understand concepts at SMPN 20 Pekanbaru.
This research uses a quasi-experiment type of research with a non-equivalent posttest only control group design. The population in this study included 5 classes, namely classes VII.7 to VII.9, then 2 classes were chosen randomly. In this case, class VII.9 was selected as the experimental group which received treatment in the form of Interactive Demonstration learning, while class VII.7 was selected as the control group which was given conventional learning. Research data was collected by giving a conceptual understanding ability test after carrying out learning material on temperature, heat and expansion in the two sample classes. This test is structured based on indicators of concept understanding ability which consists of 7 indicators which are translated into 15 question items.
The research data is in the form of posttest results on conceptual understanding which are processed quantitatively and displayed in tabular form to see the increase in concept understanding ability between the control class and the experimental class by analyzing using the T-test. The descriptive research results showed that the experimental group had a higher average score of concept understanding ability compared to the control group. Meanwhile, based on inferential analysis using the T-test, a significance value or Sig was obtained. (2-tailed) < 0.05. This shows that there is a significant difference in the ability to understand concepts in the experimental group and the control class.
Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the application of Interactive Demonstration learning is considered effective in improving students' ability to understand concepts in temperature, heat and expansion at SMPN 20 Pekanbaru. It is hoped that the results of this research can become a reference in carrying out learning activities in schools, especially in efforts to improve students' ability to understand concepts in science subject.
