Sintesis Komposit Mno2/Sio2 Dengan Metode Pengendapan Dan Uji Aktivitas Katalitik Untuk Degradasi Metilen Biru
The rapidly growing textile industry has an adverse impact due the improper treatment of dye waste. One of the possible wastes from a textile industry is methylene blue (MB). The treatment of the liquid waste containing dyes in general has been carried out by researchers with various methods. Fenton-like method is among the available methods used in the treatment of dye effluents and this method generally involves the use of oxidizing compounds such as H2O2 and catalysts such as manganese oxide (MnO2). This study aims to investigate the effect of MnO2 mass concentration on the characteristics of MnO2/SiO2 composites and determine the catalytic activity in the degradation process of methylene blue (MB) using the Fenton method. In this study, the MnO2/SiO2 composites were synthesized using the precipitation method and the synthesis was carried out by reacting KMnO4, glucose, and SiO2. The results of characterization using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) on MnO2/SiO2 composites showed the formation of cryptomelane type manganese oxide and Fourier Transform-InfraRed Spectroscopy (FT-IR) indicated the presence of Mn-O, Si-O-Si, and Si-O functional groups. Based on this study, the catalyst was able to degrade 92.19% of methylene blue with the condition 30 ppm of methylene blue concentration, 10 mL H2O2 volume, composite mass of 100 mg, and degradation time for 120 minutes at room temperature.
