Strategi Kampanye Lingkungan Rimba Satwa Foundation Dalam Konservasi Gajah Sumatera Di Provinsi Riau

The Sumatran Elephant is a species classified as Critically Endangered and listed under Appendix 1, indicating a high risk of extinction in the near future. A significant factor contributing to the decline in the population of Sumatran Elephants in Riau is habitat fragmentation due to the conversion of forests into plantations, industrial areas, and settlements. This situation is further complicated by conflicts between elephants and humans along elephant migration routes, where the community perceives elephants as "pests" for damaging their plantations and residences. The Rimba Satwa Foundation (RSF) is a non- governmental organization dedicated to the conservation of Sumatran Elephants and the forests of Riau. Since 2016, RSF has been actively engaged in environmental campaigns and conservation programs. Through initiatives such as Early Warning, involving the use of GPS Collars on elephants, Agroforestry by planting low-impact plants to deter elephants, and Conservation Goes To School (CGTS) in schools across the Riau region, RSF aims to raise awareness and knowledge among the public about Sumatran Elephants. This research aims to analyze the planning, implementation, and evaluation of RSF's environmental campaigns in the conservation efforts of Sumatran Elephants in the province of Riau.
The study use a qualitative research method with descriptive analysis. The research informants consist of six individuals selected based on purposive sampling. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis utilizes descriptive analysis according to Miles and Huberman. The techniques for ensuring data validity involve triangulation and prolonged engagement.
The results of the research show that the RSF environmental campaign strategy begins with identification, which includes problem identification, goal formulation, and audience analysis. RSF environmental campaign planning consists of three stages: selecting an audience based on previous analysis, formulating messages, and selecting media such as traditional media, new media, and converged media. The implementation of the RSF environmental campaign takes many forms, including two categories: public education campaigns about the Sumatran Elephant and campaigns to conserve the Sumatran Elephant habitat. Evaluation is conducted throughout the campaign activities. Initial evaluation is carried out with stakeholders and experts, mid-term evaluation involves collecting additional data during the planning stages, and final evaluation is conducted to identify the success of the campaign activities.
