The aim of this research is to determine the communicative situation, communicative events and communicative actions in the mangompa manuk tradition at the traditional wedding ceremony of the Mandailing Batak tribe in West Tambusai Village, Rokan Hulu Regency.
This research uses qualitative methods with an ethnographic communication approach. The informants in this research were eight people, consisting of three Hatobangon or Traditional Kings, one old man implementing the tradition, two Naposo/Nauli Bulung or young men and two prospective brides and grooms. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews and documentation.
The results of the research show that the communicative situation in the mangompa manuk tradition consists of the location where this tradition is carried out, the setting and the room where the tradition is carried out. Communicative events in the Mangompa Manuk tradition include the type of event, event topic, purpose and function, setting, participants, message form, message content, sequence of actions, rules of interaction and norms of interpretation in this tradition.
