Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is pain that occurs in the lower abdomen that occurs during sleep and is related to sleep quality, which consists of how long it takes a person to fall asleep (latency), the length of time sleeping (duration), and other components that are variable in nature. The research aims to determine the relationship between the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea and sleep quality in adolescent girls. Method: This research uses a descriptive design with a cross sectional approach. The research sample was 194 female students who had died, taken based on inclusion criteria using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection tool used was a questionnaire and the analysis used was bivariate analysis using the Spearman rank test. Results: The highest incidence of dysmenorrhea was in the severe category, amounting to 92 people (47.4%) and 179 respondents (92.3%) showed poor sleep quality. The results of statistical tests show that there is a significant relationship between the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea and sleep quality (p value 0.021)< alpha (0.05). Conclusion: The research shows results where there is a significant relationship between the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea and the sleep quality of students at the Faculty of Nursing, Riau University in the class of 2022 and class of 2023. Suggestion: In further research, it is hoped that it can be further developed to determine the factors of high quality sleep and poor quality sleep, and can use a pain scale measurement method when respondents are experiencing dysmenorrhoea.
