Analisis Semiotika Makna Motivasi Dalam Lagu “Believer” Band Imagine Dragons Dari Album Evolve

Songs are one of the media to convey messages through lyrics and video clips that contain meaning in them. The meaning in songs is always used by songwriters and musicians in voicing or conveying certain messages. In the community, the issue of bullying, acts of violence, and even the phenomenon of suicide is increasingly prevalent. However, the songs in the album "Evolve" by Imagine Dragons offer deep meaning and become a source of inspiration to raise the spirit in facing this issue. One of them is the delivery of motivational meaning in Imagine Dragons' song entitled "Believer" which was released on February 1, 2017. This research aims to analyze the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth in the song "Believer".

This research uses a qualitative method. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and literature study. Data analysis was conducted using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis system that includes denotation, connotation, and myth, and involved analyzing 10 lines of lyrics and 10 scenes of video clips. Data validity was checked using triangulation technique.

This research uses Roland Barthes' system of analysis, which includes denotation, connotation, and myth. Firstly, the denotative meaning describes the experience of pain experienced which then increases self-confidence. The second connotation of motivation includes the attitude of rejecting other people's control over personal life, the ability to see beauty in adversity, the courage to face challenges without fear, and the determination not to give up. Lastly, the myth that others limit the freedom of individuals in controlling themselves, and the myth of prayer is a form of hope when in a downturn. and myth involving the phenomenon of verbal and nonverbal violence in Indonesian society.
