SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS OF MORAL MESSAGES IN REIKO YOSHIDA'S KOE NO KATACHI ANIME FILM

The animated movie or anime "Koe no Katachi" is an adaptation of the manga "The Shape of Voice" by Yositoki Oima. Released in 2016. Koe no Katachi tells the story of Shoya Ishida who bullies Shoko Nishimiya, a deaf girl. This film is also different from other bullying-themed films where in general, bullying-themed films will focus on the victim, in the film telling how the victim overcomes his problems and rises from adversity, while the film Koe no katachi focuses on individuals who do bullying who are also victims of bullying because of their behavior that bullies others. Many moral messages are given by this movie about the courage to accept mistakes and try to improve yourself. This study aims to determine the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth of moral messages contained in the anime film Koe no Katachi by Reiko Yoshida.
This research uses a qualitative method with Roland Barthes semiotic analysis. The subject of this research is the anime film Koe no Katachi by Reiko Yoshida which examines the moral messages contained in the scenes in the film. Data obtained using observation and documentation. The selected data analysis unit is a scene that contains moral messages from 113 scenes, 10 scenes were selected. The data validity checking technique used is triangulation technique.
The results of this study are on the denotation meaning in the movie Koe no Katachi the sign language used is used by Shoko Nishimiya to communicate because she cannot hear, directly showing the need to understand and appreciate differences. The connotation meaning in the movie Koe no Katachi of Shoya apologizing to Shoko illustrates an acknowledgement of mistakes and an attempt to improve. It also reflects the emotional healing process required for both parties. The mythical meaning in the movie Koe no Katachi Shoya Ishida, once a bully, tries to make amends and seeks forgiveness from Shoko Nishimiya. This myth teaches that everyone deserves a second chance to better themselves.
