MOTIVE AND MEANING OF MCDONALD'S BOYCOTT AS PRO-ISRAEL PRODUCT BY X USERS IN PEKANBARU CITY

Boycotting pro-Israel products is a form of response by society in forming a movement to defend Palestine and fight Israel because of its acts of genocide against the Palestinian people. The call for a boycott was voiced by people from various countries, including Indonesia, who defend and are pro-Palestinian. Calls for a boycott utilize social media to disseminate information and increase support for Palestine, one of which is Twitter/X. This research aims to determine the causes and motives of the boycott and to explore the meaning of the boycott itself by Twitter/X users, especially Twitter/X users in Pekanbaru City.

This research uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. The subjects in this research were Twitter/X users who live in Pekanbaru City who knew about and participated in the boycott of pro-Israel products, especially McDonald's, totaling six people who were determined based on techniques. purposive. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis techniques by doing bracketing data, reducing data, creating data clusters, validating, and presenting data. In addition, data validity checking techniques use time and method triangulation.

The results of the research show that the motives for the boycott experienced by Twitter/X users were exposure to information from Twitter/X, opposing McDonald's alignment with Israel, belief in knowledge of the Islamic religion, support from the Twitter/X community, and family participation in joining the boycott. The motives for the boycott are to reduce McDonald's income, put pressure and distraction on the Israeli genocide, show support for Palestine, and increase public sympathy for the humanitarian issue that is occurring. Furthermore, there is the meaning of the boycott by Twitter/X users, namely as a form of solidarity with Palestine, attitudes and principles of defending humanity, and personal self-satisfaction.
