USE OF FACEBOOK SOCIAL MEDIA BY FARMERS AND COLLECTORS IN DETERMINING THE PRICE OF THE PINANG COMMODITY IN TEMBILAHAN

The Tembilahan areca nut buying and selling forum was formed on March 4 2021 and by 2024 now has 13,163 members and will continue to increase its members consistently. The easy and simple impression currently makes members of the Tembilahan areca nut buying and selling forum widely used as a means of online buying and selling compared to the direct buying and selling system.
This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach and the technique for determining research subjects is purposive. The author uses data collection techniques through interviews, observation and documentation. The number of informants was five people according to the criteria determined purposively. The data analysis technique in this research uses the Miles and Huberman Model and the data validity checking technique, namely triangulation.
The results of the research show that there is use of Facebook social media by farmers and collectors through the Facebook group, the Tembilahan areca nut buying and selling forum, namely, as a promotional medium for selling the price of areca nut commodities in Tembilahan because Facebook social media can be used for free and can reach many people, then increase the public's insight and knowledge regarding the potential of regional areca nut plantations because through social media it is very easy to interact with other users, finally increasing the number of sales because through social media it can build and attract public interest, so it can be used as a media for selling areca nut commodities in Indragiri Hilir Regency Tembilahan. as well as in managing the Facebook social media forum for buying and selling areca nut in conveying information or promoting the price of areca nut commodities in a targeted manner that has been adapted to the characteristics of Facebook social media starting from choosing the type of areca nut, using features, determining communicators, determining targets, and establishing interactions with members of the Tembilahan buying and selling forum Facebook group.
