Student learning activity is one way of supporting students in receiving lessons and motivating students in their academic and non-academic achievements. Students who are less active when studying will be less motivated and students who are quiet and unmotivated when studying need to be motivated to be able to follow lessons well. This research aims to examine openness, analyze feelings of empathy, understand support, examine positive feelings, and understand equality through classroom teacher interpersonal communication to motivate students to be active and motivated when receiving lessons.
This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The subjects of this research were 2 homeroom teachers and 4 students who were determined based on purposive techniques. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis technique uses techniques according to Miles & Huberman with 4 stages, namely collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. Apart from that, the data validity checking technique uses triangulation.
The results of the research show that students who are less motivated to be active in learning in class need several approaches to themselves through interpersonal communication so that students will be able to open up about themselves which will then help the homeroom teacher help them through appropriate learning styles, empathy which needs to be developed in students so they can socialize well. to the surroundings and students' positive feelings in learning and their social environment, as well as through interpersonal communication, this will show good support from the class teacher both verbally and non-verbally given while students are studying, participating in school activities that can support their academic and non-academic achievements. Then interpersonal communication will show equality between the homeroom teacher and students which can make students feel safe in the school environment and motivated to continue learning. From this it can be concluded that interpersonal communication is effective in providing motivation and helping someone become better.
