CRISIS COMMUNICATION OF THE COMMUNICATION RELATIONS DIVISION IN POST EXPLOSION DISASTER MANAGEMENT AT PT KILANG PERTAMINA INTERNATIONAL DUMAI UNIT

Disaster is one form of risk that can disrupt a company's business operations. Each company certainly has a different level of risk, ranging from low risks such as injury, to life-threatening risks. One sector with a high level of risk is the mining and oil and gas processing sector. There are at least 6 oil processing units operating and spread across various regions in Indonesia. PT Pertamina International Refinery Dumai Unit was in the spotlight of the domestic media for the news of the explosion that occurred on April 1, 2023. The leak followed by the emergence of the fire caused a loud boom. The boom was felt in residential areas around the refinery area. This research aims to see how the crisis communication of the Communication Relations division in handling the disaster after the explosion of PT Pertamina International Refinery Unit Dumai.
The research method used is descriptive qualitative using observation, interview and documentation techniques. Then using data analysis techniques by Miles and Huberman, namely the data reduction stage, data presentation, conclusion drawing. Then, using data validity checking techniques of extended observation and triangulation. The informants in this study amounted to 8 people using purposive techniques.
The results of the research conducted show that crisis communication by the Communication Relations division as Public Relations in handling post- explosion disasters at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Dumai Unit can be handled by paying attention to aspects of the crisis situation, crisis response and efforts to protect the public and stakeholders from losses and damage faced after the explosion. . In the crisis response strategy, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Dumai Unit conveys information directly to the public, using official social media to counter negative news. The crisis situation aspect of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Dumai Unit sees 2 main points, the first point is how the company can overcome problems in the incident area. The second point is that companies must also act quickly in acting and providing information. In an effort to protect the public and stakeholders, the company acted quickly to directly assess the situation of affected communities. Future efforts to be made include providing Major Emergency Drill (MED) training for internal parties and emergency response outreach for external parties.
