SELF-CONCEPT OF WOMEN AFTER BECOMING SINGLE PARENTS IN JAMBI CITY
The psychology of family members, particularly the wife, is being impacted by divorce in the household. Apart from concentrating on leading an easy life, the mother must also take into account the material and psychological needs of her child. Apart from having to consider what life would be like without a partner, the mother must also consider her child's financial and emotional needs. In Indonesia the number of single mothers reaches 18.25% of the total population and Jambi Province is one of the provinces with a high divorce rate. Jambi City is the city with the highest divorce rate and has various causes of divorce, which is the reason the author chose this location. The aim of this research is to determine women's self-concept after becoming a single parent in Jambi City.
This study takes a qualitative approach and bases its technique on phenomenology. The researcher employed the snowball method to find informants. Those who are widowed or divorced and are single parents are called informants. In-depth interviews, observations, and documentation were used in the data collection process. Phenomenology is the approach of data analysis used. After that, data verification was done using triangulation.
Based on the research findings, several categories were identified, including reasons for becoming a tunggal person, type of work, distance learning, long-term marriage, and long-term parenthood. The results show that women who become tua a single mom because of death have stronger psychological profiles than women who have petty issues due to divorces reason. If we look at their work background, informants who work in offices seem to pay more attention to their appearance and tend to be more active in their work. Psychologically speaking, older people's memories are seen as more stable and solid than younger people's memories that are lost by suicide. Later, the relationship between the mother and her son improved communication. Subsequently, personal reflection will vary greatly in length depending on each person's capacity for adaptation.
