COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES IN STRENGTHENING STUDENT CHARACTER IN THE FAMILY FRIENDS SCHOOL PROGRAM AT SMAN 7 PEKANBARU

Family involvement in education is an important thing to note, through the family friend school program the government organizes this program so that families can work together to support strengthening student character. Character cultivation is the provision of character knowledge, awareness, willingness, and action to implement good values towards God, self, the environment and so on in order to form students who have discipline, honesty and a sense of responsibility. SMAN 7 Pekanbaru is the only high school that implements this program in Riau Province and has received an award from the Ministry of Education and Culture. This study aims to determine how the selection of communicators, messages, communicants, media, and effects in the strategy of strengthening student character in the family friend school program at SMAN 7 Pekanbaru.
This research uses a Qualitative Descriptive Method with the determination of informants based on Purposive. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. Informants were obtained from as many as 10 people, namely the school, parents, and students of SMAN 7 Pekanbaru. Data analysis techniques use data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion-making. Data validity checking technique using source triangulation.
The first research result is the determination of communicators in the program, namely the program coordinator, teacher or homeroom teacher and school public relations, this is obtained with the criteria of teachers who know thoroughly about the SSK program. Second, messages are conveyed verbally by conducting meetings and in writing through group media, besides that the school also mobilizes homeroom teachers as the main message to always communicate actively with students' families. Third, communicants are families and students according to the partnership in the SSK program. Fourth, the media used are social media, school websites and print media. Effects for parents are involved in children's education, for students can character education and become outstanding students and for schools can improve the good name of the school.
