REPRESENTATION OF TORTURE IN THE FILM TORTURE HELL BY ANGGY UMBARA

Technological developments in the digital era have made various films appear and can create fantastic scenes that can spoil the eyes of the audience. The film Torture Hell has influenced popular culture, from introducing new technology and special effects to creating a new genre of religious horror, modern digital art, which incorporates iconic imagery and its symbolism, and has influenced the film industry. The film's iconic sound, visuals and score have become an integral component of Indonesian society. The film Torture Hell has had a significant impact on film merchandising, publishing, and fan relations, and has inspired a huge fan and merchandise industry. The film's ability to captivate audiences with its blend of horror, religion, and inventive storytelling has contributed to the film's enduring status as a beloved film, captivating generations of filmgoers, and leaving an indelible mark on popular culture. The aim of carrying out this research is to analyze the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth of torture represented in the film Torture Hell by Anggy Umbara.
The research method used is a qualitative research method using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis techniques through the levels of denotation, connotation and myth by focusing on scenes showing torture in the film Siksa Hell. Data collection techniques use library research and documentation, with triangulation data validity techniques.
The research results obtained show that fragments of scenes in the film Siksa Hell represent torture as seen directly from the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth. The denotational meaning of torture in the film Siksa Hell is highlighted by torture using hot liquid lead, melted metal, hot iron, hot iron, hanging and chaining humans, using gouges and scorpions, eating rotten flesh or carrion. Lastly, use sharp tools such as knives, nails and saws. The connotation of torture in the film Siksa Hell is highlighted from the facial expressions shown, screams of pain, screams for forgiveness, words of help, and even the cries and moans of those who want to be free from the bondage of torture. There are eight myths developed in the film Siksa Hell, namely that the hottest fire is bright red; heated iron, liquid lead and metal can cause damage; pry tools can cause defects; irons and sharp tools such as knives, nails and saws were used for torture; facial expressions show what is felt; screaming in pain; screaming words issued as a sign of being treated badly or cruelly; and moans and cries as a sign of not being able to endure the pain and escape from the punishment given.
