CONVERGENCE OF RADIO REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA IN ATTRACTING YOUNG GENERATION IN RRI PRO 2 PEKANBARU BROADCAST

Media convergence has become a significant phenomenon in the broadcasting industry, especially in the context of radio media. The digital technology transformation has accelerated this convergence process, profoundly changing the radio broadcasting landscape. The purpose of this research is to understand how RRI implements media convergence dimensions to attract the interest of young generations to RRI Pro 2 Pekanbaru broadcasts, as well as to identify the obstacles RRI faces regarding convergence in attracting the interest of young generations to RRI Pro 2 Pekanbaru broadcasts.
The subject of this research was chosen through purposive technique with the main informant being the Head of Programma 2 RRI Pekanbaru and supplementary informants being the broadcasters of Programma 2 RRI Pekanbaru as well as active students who listen to RRI Programma 2 Pekanbaru. Data collection was carried out through interview, observation, and documentation techniques. Meanwhile, data analysis technique in this research was conducted by collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions.
The results of this research indicate that RRI Pro 2 Pekanbaru in implementing convergence uses four convergence dimensions according to Rich Gordon. These convergence dimensions include Tactical Convergence, Structural Convergence, Information gathering Convergence, and Storytelling Convergence. Another finding in this research is that Radio Republik Indonesia Pro 2 Pekanbaru and the implementation of convergence face obstacles such as the emergence of various music streaming platforms offering a variety of instant content that can be accessed, so the target audience does not need to open the radio to listen to songs, as well as obstacles from limitations in human resources and supporting devices that support convergence.
