Kayu Ara Permai Village, Sungai Apit District, Siak Regency, Riau Province has a mangrove ecotourism area called the Historic River Mangrove. Mangroves have a very large function and role in the stability of coastal ecosystems through falling litter to produce nutrients through a decomposition mechanism. The aim of this research is to produce a booklet design from research on the decomposition rate of Sonneratia alba and Rhizophora apiculata leaf litter in the Mangrove Ecosystem Area of Kayu Ara Permai Village as a medium for high school biology learning.
This research was carried out in June-August 2023. The method in this research consisted of two stages, namely, in the first stage the survey method. The survey method was carried out by observing, measuring and taking samples directly in the field regarding the decomposition rate of Sonneratia alba and Rhizophora apiculata leaf litter in the Historic River Mangrove Ecotourism Area, Kayu Ara Permai Village and the second stage was designing a booklet. The booklet design stage of the research results was carried out in two stages, namely the analysis (Analyze) and design (Design) stages.
The result of measurements of the average litter decomposition rate in the Mangrove Sungai Bersejarah, Kayu Ara Permai Village in Sonneratia alba stands were 0,76 g/day or 90% and Rhizophora apiculata was 0,19 g/day or 35,7%. The decomposition coefficient (determination of litter weight loss) in Sonneratia alba stands is classified as high, namely k=0,06 and in Rhizophora apiculata stands it is classified as medium, namely k=0,01. The physical and chemical parameters of the waters at the research location obtained were water temperature between 28-30oC, water pH between 6,8-7,3 and salinity in the waters between 23-27 o/oo.
Based on the results of research regarding the decomposition rate of Sonneratia alba and Rhizophora apiculata leaf litter in the Mangrove Sungai Bersejarah, Kayu Ara Permai Village, Siak Regency, learning media in the form of a booklet for the Ecosystem Biologi subject for class X SMA has been designed
