Pengaruh Metode Active Debate Terhadap Kemampuan Bernalar Kritis Siswa Kelas Xi Di Sma Negeri 1 Pangean

This research was motivated by the lack of students' critical reasoning abilities. This is caused by several factors, including because the civics teacher is already senior, so the learning applied by the teacher tends to be conventional. Students are not given a learning experience, their critical reasoning skills are not trained. So, when faced with a problem related to a learning topic, students experience difficulty in obtaining information and ideas, difficulty in analyzing and reasoning about information, and difficulty in concluding and conveying information clearly and systematically. Meanwhile, there are three indicators of critical reasoning abilities quoted from (Shabir, 2022), namely: 1) Obtaining and processing information and ideas, 2) Analyzing and evaluating reasoning, 3) Reflecting and evaluating. It can be described that obtaining and processing information and ideas are steps in gathering ideas to understand a problem. Analyzing and evaluating individual reasoning can form a critical and deeper view of a problem. Furthermore, by reflecting and evaluating individuals can improve themselves, both in terms of experience and self-development. So the lack of critical reasoning skills of students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangean deserves to be followed up. And steps are needed to respond to and overcome the problems faced by students. Therefore, researchers are interested in researching to find out the effect of the active debate method on students' critical reasoning abilities by going directly into the field and knowing the real conditions.
The problem formulation in this research is whether there is an influence of the active debate method on the critical reasoning abilities of class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangean. The aim of this research is to find out whether there is an influence of the active debate method on the critical reasoning abilities of class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangean. The benefit of this research is that it can be used as a reference for teachers in carrying out learning activities at school and to add insight and new knowledge that can be used as a study by solving the same problems.
This research is a quantitative type of experimental research using a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The data collection technique in this research is using observation sheets, questionnaires and documentation. The population in this study was class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Pangean consisting of 105 students and the sample in this study was taken from 70 students, namely classes XI A and XI B.
The Active Debate method has an influence on students' critical reasoning abilities because it obtains Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 at the 5% significance level or 0.000 < 0.05, then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It can be concluded that the Active Debate method has an effect on the critical reasoning abilities of class
