Strategi Komunikasi Dinas Kebudayaan Dan Pariwisata Kota Pekanbaru Dalam Mempromosikan Objek Wisata Monumen Kereta Api Dan Makam Pahlawan Kerja
Located on Kaharuddin Nasution Street, Simpang Tiga, Bukit Raya, in Pekanbaru City, Riau, there is a historical tourism site called the Railway Monument and the Heroes' Cemetery. During the Japanese occupation, this monument served as a burial site for the victims of “romusha”, or forced labor, who worked on the Muarakalaban-Muaro-Pekanbaru railway construction project. Compared to 2023, which had only 796 visitors from January to December, there was a significant increase in visitors in 2024, with a total of 763 visitors from January to May 2024. The purpose of this study is to understand the communication strategies, planning, implementation, evaluation, and factors that support and hinder the promotion of the Railway Monument and the Heroes' Cemetery by the Pekanbaru City Department of Culture and Tourism.
This study uses Lasswell's communication model combined with a qualitative research methodology. The research employs purposive sampling techniques, involving the Pekanbaru City Department of Culture and Tourism, the General Affairs Subsection, the Content Creator Section, the Creative Economy Cooperation Section, and the Head of the Tourism Attraction Development Section as its subjects. Data collection methods include interviews and observations. The data analysis techniques consist of data reduction, data explanation, and drawing conclusions. Additionally, a triangulation approach is used to verify the validity of the data.
The research findings indicate that the communication strategy employed by the Pekanbaru City Department of Culture and Tourism, which uses educational content about the history of the Railway Monument and the Heroes' Cemetery to be promoted on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and others, has been quite effective and successful. This is evident from the data showing an increase in visitors to the Railway Monument and the Heroes' Cemetery from January to May 2024, with a total of 763 visitors out of 859,016 visitors to all tourist attractions in Pekanbaru. This represents a 95.9% increase from the total number of visitors to the Railway Monument and the Heroes' Cemetery in 2023, which was 796 out of 1,457,874 visitors to all tourist attractions in Pekanbaru from January to May 2024.
