In the engineering world there are many workmanship processes that can cause friction between machine components. Every moving machine component will definitely cause friction. One of the consequences of friction that occurs continuously is that it can cause damage to engine components, which is called wear. Therefore, lubricants are needed to protect engine components from the wear caused by the friction. The basic principle of the lubricant itself is to prevent friction between two moving metal surfaces, so that machine components can operate smoothly and efficiently without any wasted energy. In tribology, for research purposes in this field of science, a testing tool is needed to test friction and wear, called a tribometer. Lubricants made from mineral oils and synthetic oils are not easily degraded, in other words, they cannot be renewed. Whereas lubricants made from vegetable oils can be renewed, for example kapok oil. Traditional lubricant bases are mostly derived from petroleum, but there is growing interest in finding sustainable alternative sources due to environmental and resource concerns. Kapok oil, extracted from the seeds of the kapok tree, shows potential as a renewable and environmentally friendly option for use as a lubricant base or additive. This proposal aims to determine the effect of speed on the lubricant applied to the specimen. As a result, the smallest wear rate was obtained at 4.31545 x 10-6 m^3/Nm and the smallest coefficient of friction was obtained at 1.19138 x 10-3.
