PERANCANGAN ULANG DAN ANALISIS TEGANGAN BACK PRESSURE VESSEL HORIZONTAL DENGAN PENINGKATAN KAPASITAS MIN. 30% BERBASIS CODE ASME VIII DIVISION 1
A pressure vessel is a device used to store or contain pressurized fluids, either
in the form of gas or liquid. The design of pressure vessels is carried out to ensure
they can hold pressurized fluids with pressures higher or lower than the ambient
pressure, or with fluid temperatures inside the vessel that are higher or lower than
the ambient temperature. In the palm oil mill industry, pressure vessels are
essential for operations. Over time, the price of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) of palm
oil always increases, making it possible for palm oil mill companies to increase
production capacity, which in turn requires increasing the capacity of operating
equipment, including the Back Pressure Vessel. This research aims to redesign the
pressure vessel with an increased capacity from its previous capacity, based on the
ASME Code Section VIII Division 1 design guidelines. Additionally, a simulation
test will be conducted using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with the ANSYS
application. The first step involves calculating the increased capacity of the vessel,
resulting in two options: extending the shell length or increasing the radius. Then,
the new dimension parameters of the vessel and the vessel stress for these two
options are calculated. The new vessel dimension calculations show a thickness of
12 mm for the extended length and 14 mm for the increased radius, which will then
be used to redesign the vessel based on these new dimensions. The next step is
modeling the new vessel design, which will undergo ANSYS simulation testing to
determine the vessel's specific stress values. The theoretical stress calculation
results will then be compared with the simulation stress results. From this
comparison, the vessel with the increased radius is found to be superior. Therefore,
for the final vessel design, the vessel with the increased radius is chosen.
