PERANCANGAN ALAT FRICTION STIR WELDING (FSW) UNTUK PIPA HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE) DENGAN METODE DESIGN FOR ASSEMBLY (DFA)
Welding is a process of joining materials by utilizing heat energy. The welding
technique that is currently developing is Friction Stir Welding (FSW). FSW is a
solid-state joining process using tool friction against the material as a heat source.
The working principle of this welding process is friction arising from the rotation
of the tool which is applied pressure on both surfaces of the material to be joined,
the friction between the tool and the material will cause the initial heat of the
welding process. FSW can be used for joining thermoplastic materials, one of which
is High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) material, the purpose of this research is to
design an FSW tool assembly for HDPE pipe material with a tool working system
that surrounds HDPE pipe material, and calculates the efficiency of tool component
assembly time with the design for assembly (DFA) method. The DFA method is used
to consider the ease of the assembly process (DFA) of the tool components, the DFA
method gets the actual assembly efficiency results of 52.84% better than in theory
of 52.71%, indicated by the actual assembly time results of 397.41 seconds
compared to the theory of 398.38 seconds, which shows that the higher the
percentage of assembly efficiency, the faster the assembly time of the FSW tool
components. Finally, a suitable and optimal FSW tool assembly design for HDPE
pipe material was obtained.
