PENGARUH FRAKSI VOLUME SERAT SISAL PADA KOMPOSIT BERMATRIKS EPOXY TERHADAP KEKUATAN LENTUR, KEKUATAN IMPAK, DAN DENSITAS MENGGUNAKAN METODE VACCUM BAGGING
Agave Sisalana Perrine (Agave SP) plants grow widely in the Bukit Bulek area,
West Sumatra Province. Agave leaf fiber is used by the people of Bukit Bulek as a
binding/rope material so that Agave leaf fiber has good potential to be developed
as a composite reinforcing material. The aim of the research is to use fibers from
Agave leaves as reinforcement for epoxy matrix composites for flexural strength,
impact strength and density. The fibers used to make the composite are 20 cm
long. The fiber was treated with 5% NaOH alkalization for 4 hours to increase the
interfacial bond between the fiber and the matrix. Variations in fiber volume
fraction used are 30, 35, 40, and 45% with laminate orientation angles of 0º/90º.
Composite manufacturing uses the vacuum banging method. Flexural, impact and
composite density tests refer to ASTM D-790, ASTM D-6110 and ASTM D792
standards respectively. The test results showed that the flexural strength and
density of the composite increased with the addition of a volume fraction of 30 to
35% with a maximum flexural strength and density of 49.46 MPa and 1.14 g/cm3
.
Meanwhile, the impact price of the composite increases with the increase in the
volume fraction of sisal fiber from 30 to 45% with a maximum impact price of
24.60 KJ/m2
. Apart from that, the thickness of the laminate in the direction of
fiber orientation also has an influence on the results obtained. It is hoped that the
benefits of this research in the field of science will contribute to the progress in
the development of environmentally friendly composite materials.
