Kontes Kapal Cepat Tak Berawak Nasional (KKCTBN) organized by the Pusat
Prestasi Nasional (Puspresnas) KemendikbudristekRI aims to promote innovation
in the design and performance of maritime technology prototypes. The selection of
appropriate materials for the hull of a catamaran is crucial, as it affects the
strength and weight of the vessel. Materials like Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP),
which uses glass fibers, are often used due to their good mechanical strength.
However, natural fibers such as pineapple leaf fibers also have potential as
composite reinforcement. Combining natural and synthetic fibers, such as
pineapple leaf fibers and glass fibers, in a hybrid composite can enhance the
material's mechanical properties. The objective of this research is to analyze the
characteristics of pineapple leaf fiber and glass fiber composites that meet the
BKI standards. The research methodology includes separating pineapple leaves
using a spoon to obtain fibers, alkali treatment using 10% NaOH for 24 hours,
and drying in an oven at 100°C for 60 minutes. After that, the specimens were
made using the vacuum bagging method with a 50% variation in the percentage
of pineapple leaf fibers and glass fibers in the following order: 5%:45%,
10%:40%, and 15%:35%. The specimens were tested for density using ASTM
D792, tensile strength using ASTM D3039, and impact strength using ASTM
D6110. The research results showed that the specimen with a 10% pineapple leaf
fiber percentage met the minimum BKI standard for the application of prototype
hulls, with a tensile strength of 114 MPa and impact strength of 49.96 J/mm², with
a density of 1.19 g/cm³. The results of this research indicate that the produced
composite can be used as a prototype material for the hull of a catamaran-type
