PRODUKSI BIO-COAL BERBAHAN TANDAN KOSONG KELAPA SAWIT DENGAN METODE TOREFAKSI MENGGUNAKAN REAKTOR TIPE TUBULAR BERKAPASITAS 50 KG/JAM KONTINU
The dependency on fossil fuels as the primary energy source has caused significant
problems, particularly in energy security and environmental impact. The
development of renewable energy has become a main focus in the effort to create a
sustainable future. An interesting innovation in this field is the development of
biomass. One abundant source of biomass is the waste generated from the
processing of empty fruit bunches (EFB). This research aims to increase the
production of bio-coal derived from EFB up to 50 kg/hour using the torrefaction
method in a tubular reactor, and to compare the torrefaction process with
simulation using Aspen Plus® software to model the torrefaction of EFB. The
results of this study show that bio-coal produced from varying masses at
temperatures of 300, 350, and 400°C indicates that torrefaction is effective in
increasing the calorific value of bio-coal. Additionally, a comparative analysis
between the highest calorific values obtained from experimental results and those
obtained from Aspen Plus® software simulation was included. The experiment with
10 kg of EFB at a temperature variation of 400°C resulted in a calorific value of
5047.32 Kcal/kg, a mass yield of 7%, and an energy yield of 20.16%. In
comparison, the Aspen Plus® simulation produced a calorific value of 5148.41
Kcal/kg, a mass yield of 8%, and an energy yield of 23.67%.
